"This will make it sit better. Just close your eyes and imagine yourself lying back in the water.
"I'm not a very good swimmer, so that's probably why I'm finding this difficult!" I said.
"Well you'll be more streamlined after this evening, so perhaps that'll make you a better swimmer!" she said.
The sensation had continued uninterrupted and I could feel it going higher up the back of my head. I tried counting backwards from a hundred, anything to take my mind off what might be happening back there. Except that I didn't have a chance to get right down to one before Paula moved around to my side. She placed the clippers at my temple and in an instant, what had been wispy strands of hair was no more. There was bare skin at my temple. Before I could get the words out, there was more bare skin above my ear. Not short hair, not stubble, but bare skin.
Paula anticipated my exclamation of concern, girly scream, whatever you want to call it.
"I told you, this will make it sit right once I let the rest down."
"And that's meant to put my mind at ease is it?" I exclaimed.
"You'll love it, I promise, it just won't be something that you would have asked for on your own."
